BUTTING – Facts and figures
Products Longitudinally welded stainless steel pipes and fittings (e. g. elbows, reducers, tees), vessels, special piping components, installations on site.
Sales worldwide BUTTING has several sales departments in Knesebeck and Schwedt, affiliated companies in China and Canada and partners all over the world, e. g. Oman, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Israel, Korea and Australia.
Foundation BUTTING was founded in Crossen (belongs to Poland now) near the river Oder in 1777 and was re-established in Knesebeck/Lower Saxony in 1945. In 1990, a subsidiary was founded in Schwedt/Oder in the federal state of Brandenburg.

| BUTTING – Big variety of pipe fittings BUTTING – Big variety of pipe fittings
Besides the production of longitudinally welded pipes, BUTTING also undertakes the manufacture of a big variety of pipe fittings, like reducers, tees, collars, elbows and branches. This enables our customers to also take advantage of this possibility.
The fittings are either produced from our high quality pipes or from plates pro- duced by renowned European steel mills. The pipe fittings are mainly made to order in non-standard sizes and special alloys, however, we also keep a big stock of more than 3 500 different standard products.
The combination of pipes and pipe fittings in the acknowledged BUTTING quality, as well as prefabricated special components guarantee optimum cost effectiveness and reliability.

| BUTTING – Clad pipes Clad pipes comply with the most stringent requirements of strength, corrosion resistance and cost effectiveness. Generally the outer part of the pipes is in carbon steel to control the inside pressures, whereas the inner high alloyed cladding of the pipe is meant to protect against corrosion.
BUTTING is the only mill in Europe using two different processes:
|
| BUTTING – Collars Slip-on collars and welding neck collars without bevel up to PN 10 similar to
DIN 2642 are made at BUTTING in a semi-automatic process.
Collars up to NB 400 are produced in bulk quantities continuously from coil or from plate, if non-standard sizes and small quantities are required. As regards bigger sizes up to NB 1 000, cold formed angles from plate are used to make the welded collars.
Slip-on collars and welding neck collars are available ex stock and are suitable for the standard pipes we keep in stock regularly.

| BUTTING – Longitudinally welded pipes BUTTING – Longitudinally welded pipes
The production of high quality longitudinally welded pipes is our core business since the development of stainless steels. There are not many companies in Europe like BUTTING which can look back to a long-standing experience and a big variety of welded stainless steel products.
We use two different production processes:
- continuous production from coil
- discontinuous production from plate
These processes offer great flexibility regarding material combinations and size range and nearly any customer's special request can be complied with. We offer you competitve prices, flexibility and quality, regardless of the type of product supplied – special products in special alloys, clad materials or fast track deliveries of pipes from our well kept stock.
Special geometries, like oval pipes, square and rectangular sections, polygonal pipes, also in fixed lengths, very tight tolerances, e. g. for piggable pipes, or special surface conditions are a further proof of our competence in pipe production.

| BUTTING – Noise reducing pipes At the end of the seventies BUTTING was asked by customers from the petro- chemical industry to develop a noise reducing pipe for pneumatic conveyor systems.
During the transport of plastic granulars and production speeds of 10–40 m/sec noise levels of up to 120 dB are caused, especially when the granulars hit the walls of the elbows. An insulation of the pipelines from the outside did not prove successful, as the heat input via the pipe wall would have caused melting of the granulars, resulting in the formation of a film on the pipe walls.
The problem was solved successfully by using double wall pipes and elbows. The result was impressing. The gap between the inner and outer pipe caused a noise reduction of more than 15 %, e. g. from 115 dB down to 95 dB, measured by an independent institute at the chemical plant of Erdölchemie in Dormagen. Noise reducing pipes can be supplied in outside diameters from NB 50 up to
NB 300.
Imagination and the willingness to comply with the customers' special requirements have provided reliable and cost effective life veins in modern plants.

| BUTTING – Pipe elbows Depending on the outside diameter we produce elbows without folds from BUTTING longitudinally welded pipes using various bending processes. Elbows are also made from two halves from plate.
The different production processes at our disposal enable a production of bends acc. to DIN 2505, types 3 and 5 and even bigger radii and with tangents without circumferential weld, if required. Also three-dimensional multiple bends can be made in accordance with the customers' isometric drawings.
Elbows for piggable pipelines with tight tolerances on ovality acc. to DIN 2430-1 are produced to complete our prodution. The inside diameter of the mother pipe is crucial and should not be changed unduly. To ensure an optimum quality and tolerances, the use of pipes and elbows from the same production lot and heat is recommended.
|
| BUTTING – Pipes from discontinuous production If longitudinally welded stainless steel pipes are required in small quantities (often in non-standard sizes and in special alloys), in diameters of over NB 600 or wall thicknesses of more than 12 mm, then these are made discon- tinuously from plates in either 6 m or 12 m lengths. Depending on the intended use of the pipes, also clad plates are used.
Pipes having wall thicknesses of up to 60 mm max. and outside diameters of up to 3 000 mm can be formed and welded with our modern production facilities. For 6 m lengths, the maximum ratio of OD/wall thickness is 1.2:10.
Besides common weld procedures, like TIG, Plasma-TIG, SAW, the very efficient Electron Beam welding is used by BUTTING as one of the few manufacturers in Europe.

| BUTTING – Tees and branches Tees and branches are made from the high quality BUTTING pipe. The branches are made by drawing, pressing or welding.
The tolerances, type of construction and testing of the either butt-welded tees or saddles can be chosen from the DIN 2615/2609, ASTM standards or customers' specifications.
Branches can be made either acc. to DIN 2619 (shoe) or extruded according to specified dimensions. For saddles the overall length is acc. to DIN 2618.
We have a nice, restricted stock of tees and saddles.
